Open Source Random Data Generator

I’m starting web development work on a project that will involve searching for matching information. So, I needed to load test data into my MySQL database to begin to play around with queries and results. I figured I’d write a php script to generate a bunch of data for me so I could quickly move on to the fun part of running queries.

Turns out that there are many such tools already online to save me the time. The one I used is generatedata.com and it works quite well.

aside

Larry Wayne JacksonOur mailman, Larry Jackson, died on Tuesday, August 14, 2012.

He was way too young and too nice of a guy to make his passing easy to understand. We only started talking this year as I was out working on my house and he would come by to deliver.  Larry was an instantly “likeable” guy and we always talked for a few minutes before he moved on in his route.

Larry you will be missed.

Rest in peace.

How To Identify An Unknown Font

I long ago found the What The Font? service at My Fonts for figuring out what font-family was used in web projects I inherited. The site lets you upload in image with the letters in it and will show you what font-family is being used.

The other day I couldn’t get an image to upload on the service so I searched out another way and found Identifont.

It helps you identify the unknown font by asking you questions about it such as, “Does the capital T have points coming down from the top?”

It took me through a gazillion questions about my font. Mainly, because I only knew what the capital K, A, T, D and Y looked like. Amazingly though, it got it down to the exact font I was looking for. An incredible piece of programming!
